Research in the Reisman Laboratory will focus on the field of natural product synthesis, with an emphasis on the development of catalytic asymmetric methods that facilitate the construction of complex molecules. We will draw inspiration for methods development from nature, focusing on strategic bond constructions that are often promoted enzymatically during biosynthesis, but are still inaccessible enantioselectively using current synthetic methods. Current areas of research include the synthesis of alkaloid natural products, catalytic asymmetric methods for the synthesis of arylated indolines, and the development of catalysts for enantioselective electrophilic chlorination.
