George Lu, a postdoctoral
researcher in Professor Mikhail Shapiro’s lab, has received a K99/R00 NIH
Pathway to Independence Award designed to foster the transition of new
investigators to research independence. It provides close to $1 Million in
funding to support his research and for starting his independent lab. His
research leverages the biomolecular engineering of gas vesicles (GVs) to develop
genetically encodable methods for imaging and controlling cells in deep-lying
tissues.
