Air Liquide R&D Process Chemist
Job Responsibilities
Located in Fremont, CA
The R&D Chemist role in the Solid Precursors Development team under Chemical Technology Development (CTD) organization of ALAM is part of a large team focused on developing new products for ALAM, with the particular focus on new solid precursors evaluation, manufacturing process development and scale up, industrialization, and process reliability improvement, etc. He/she will lead projects and groups to develop novel and scalable synthesis and purification, develop analytical methodology, create intellectual properties, and interface with various other functions to move the new product to the market.
Job Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Lead the project to synthesize and analyze novel solid precursor molecules from gram to multi-kilogram scale.
- Closely work with development engineers/process specialist to scale up and industrialize precursor manufacturing and treatment processes.
- Closely work with packaging team to develop testing /treatment methods, perform related packaging flow tests, and post treatment of precursors in their final packaging.
- Interface with product management and develop the new product through stage gate process
- Interface with various function groups such as Sales, Marketing, Safety, Quality, Supply chain, etc.
- Design new tools and/or optimize existing procedures to improve the reliability, safety, and ergonomics of existing solid precursor purification, handling, filling, leak check, and post treatment processes.
- Create intellectual properties for the company.
- Mentor and train new chemist(s), process specialist(s), and technicians.
- Foster an innovative and collaborative work environment.
- Provide chemistry support related to various quality, safety or manufacturing issues.
- Drives a culture of "Do It Safe, Do It Right the First Time" with their actions and their words on a daily basis
- Successfully complete all assigned trainings in a timely manner
- Up to 10% domestic and international travel required
Required Qualifications
- Ph.D. in chemistry or chemical engineering; or B.S/M.S. in chemistry or chemical engineering with at least 5 years of related work experience.
- Strong safety mindset with a proven track of records of safely handling hazardous chemicals in an academic or manufacturing environment.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience with handling air and moisture sensitive molecules
- 3+ years of experience with analytical instrumentation, methodology development, and data analysis for air-sensitive compounds, including NMR, TGA, FT-IR, Raman, and PXRD, etc.
- Upcoming or recent graduates are welcomed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ph.D in inorganic or organometallic chemistry.
- Excellent team player with good project management skills.
- 3+ years of hands on experience on sublimation from gram to multi-kilogram scale.
- 3+ years of hands on experience on operating and maintaining chemical vapor deposition tools.
- Excellent writing and communication skills demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications and/or patents.

- Conduct the project independently from literature study to bench work
- Synthesize and purify novel deposition precursor molecules from gram to kilogram scale
- Complete the data package and transfer the new molecule synthesis to Process Development and Engineering Groups for further scale-up manufacturing
- Develop novel and more efficient synthetic process. Create intellectual properties for the company
- Conduct Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) and Job Safety Analysis (JSA)
- Provide technical support to functional groups such as Safety, Quality and operations. Troubleshoot safety and technical issues.

The Senior R&D chemist is part of a new product development team to synthesize, purify and analyze new semiconductor materials and other new emerging products. He/she will lead projects and groups to develop novel and scalable synthesis and purification, develop analytical methodology, create intellectual properties, interface with various other functions to move the new product to the market.

Required Qualifications

- Hands-on experiences with analytical instrumentation including Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), Ultraviolet–visible spectroscopy (UV), gas chromatography (GC), mass spectroscopy (MS) and Fourier-Transformed Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), including operating various types of vacuum systems such as Schlenk technique.

USC Postdoctoral Positions
Job Description: The Department of Chemistry at the University of Southern California is seeking highly motivated postdoctoral research fellows in the area of inorganic chemistry and catalysis, one with an emphasis on reaction and process design and the other in the area of structural chemistry and X-ray crystallography. One position will be based in the Travis Williams lab, focused on process development and homogeneous catalysis in the hydrogen on demand space. The other will be the interim director of our chemistry X-ray crystallography facility (in part) and have a research portfolio in inorganic chemistry and catalysis in the other part.
The postdoctoral fellows will work in a high energy, diverse research environment and advise on projects impacting many areas of catalysis, including organometallic chemistry, organic synthesis, polymer recycling and sustainability, and materials science.
Qualifications:The applicants must have received, or be scheduled to receive, a Ph.D. in chemistry, or a related field by the start of the appointment. A strong record of research productivity is required. Experience in synthetic chemistry is required for both positions, and a track record in crystallography is required for the X-ray position.
